Waveform inversion of subwell velocity structure

The wave equation traveltime+waveform (WTW) inversion method is used to seismic crosshole data for the detailed velocity structure between the source and the receiver wells (Luo and Schuster, 1990; Zhou et al, 1993). In this paper we use the waveform inversion method to invert for the velocity structure beneath the bottom of the wells. Our real data results shows that the waveform inversion method can reconstruct the subtle velocity structures both below the wells and between the wells. The resolution of the tomogram is increased near the bottom of the wells by using the extended velocity model.
