Abstract

A vulcanizable, compatibilized elastomeric composition comprising: (a) a halogenated random copolymer of 80 wt% polymerized C4-C7 isomonoolefin and 0.05 to 20 wt% aryl monomer units of mixtures randomly distributed in the structure below; the average molecular weight of the copolymer being at least 10,000; wherein R and R^ each independently are selected from hydrogen and C1-C4 alkyl and X is bromine or chlorine; (b) a olefinically unsaturated elastomeric polymer; and (c) 0.05 to 3 wt% curing agent per 100 wt% of the mixture polymer, selected from the carboxylic acid (selected from cycloalkyl acid, salicylic acid and C10-C28 fatty acid) of aluminum, iron, tin and zinc oxide or mixtures thereof, the ratio of random copolymer to the pre-mixing unsaturated polymer is 1:99 to 99:1.
