Abstract
We describe techniques for the visualization of a scalar‐valued function defined over a surface. The main interest focuses on a 4D graph of such a function and projections of this graph into 3‐space. The paper also contains methods for testing the smoothness of interpolants over surfaces and a short tutorial on fundamental ideas of multidimensional descriptive geometry which can be helpful in several areas of scientific visualization.
