Abstract

Traveltime information is essential for anisotropy parameter estimation. We can efficiently estimate anisotropy parameters if we can relate them analytically to traveltimes. By expanding the solution of the orthorhombic eikonal equation in power series in terms of the anellipticity anisotropy parameters and a new parameter, we derive an efficient tool to estimate (scan) these parameters in inhomogeneous ellipsoid background medium. For a homogeneous orthorhombic case, the resulting new approximations provide classical non-hyperbolic moveout descriptions of traveltimes that are more accurate than other derived approximations.
