Abstract
The occurence of the melting and the structural rearrangement processes in the nanoscale in isotactic polystyrene (iPS) spherulites was demonstrated by the direct visualization provided by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The originally crystallized sample was kept at 215°C for a long period of time to study the possibility of recrystallization after partial melting. The thermodynamic stability within single lamellae was found non-uniform due to structural fluctuation as reflected by the fragmentation of lamellae upon thermally treating at different temperatures.
