Abstract
Pre-ignition (PI) has been considered as a bottleneck to further improvement in a Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engines. Researchers have shown lubricant oil droplet as one of the probable source of PI occurrence. A sophistically engineered constant volume combustion chamber (CVCC) has been built which is capable of operating at elevated temperature and pressure and is equipped with a single oil droplet generator to study the characteristics of the droplet-induced PI in SI engine. In this evolving study, in an attempt to understand the occurrence of PI, different experiments are being carried out considering the importance of droplet size, equivalence ratio, temperature, pressure and fuel composition. In the current study, the effect of pressure on the ignition of two different oil droplet has been highlighted.
