title = "Solid State electrochemical pressure sensor for lean direct injection engines",
abstract = "A solid state sensor located inside the cylinder of a lean direct injection engine provides a signal that is useful for engine control and diagnostics. Our simulation work indicates that an in situ electrochemical sensor responds to variations in temperature and pressure during the compression stroke prior to fuel injection on account of changes in the diffusivity of air. When the temperature of the device is known, a single cell, amperometric oxygen sensor designed for operation in the mass transport limited regime yields a signal that determines pressure. Our laboratory work confirms this observation.",
