Abstract

A new type of interpolating spline under tension is presented. The curves are obtained by a variational formulation. Unlike the closely related tau-splines, they possess third order parametric continuity and a smooth torsion plot. The special case of uniform tension parameters yield even spline curves with fourth order geometric continuity.
