Abstract

A second-order closure model for reacting turbulent flows is presented and evaluated by comparing the results with measurements in a turbulent nonpremixed flame. In particular, a model for the Reynolds stress components, which specifically includes the effects of chemical heat release on the Reynolds stress components, is put forward. Predictions with this new closure are in agreement with the present experimental data. The analysis shows that the heat release terms are of importance for the time-scale ratio. The time-scale ratio is not constant and is sensitive to density fluctuations. Accordingly, the heat release due to combustion affects the scalar field differently than the velocity field.
