Abstract

An approach by which the scour depth around group of slender vertical piles in random waves can be derived is presented. Here, formulas based on data from laboratory tests for scour depth by Sumer and Fredsøe [Sumer BM, Fredsøe J. Wave scour around group of vertical piles. ASCE J Waterway, Port Coastal Ocean Eng. 1998; 124(5):248-255.] for group of slender vertical piles for regular waves are used. They are combined with describing the waves as a stationary Gaussian narrow-band random process to derive the scour depths in random waves.
