Abstract
No detailed information about the relationship between bottle shrinkage and manufacturing conditions has been given. The authors report the relation between process conditions and bottle shrinkage, as well as the shrinkage characteristics of the heat-set bottle. The CO//2 retention in 2-liter bottles with different thermal histories is illustrated. CO//2 retention is improved slightly below Tg, but the effect is reduced or absent at higher temperatures. This phenomenon may be caused by the loss of orientation during the heat setting process. It may also be due to that no significant pressure is maintained inside the bottle after opening the mold in order to keep the stress and orientation on the bottle.
