Abstract
The conditions that are best suited to the synthesis of polystyrene (PS)/poly(n-butyl acrylate) (PnBuA) block copolymers were investigated by sequential polymerization of the two monomers, using AIBN as initiator and DEPN as chain growth controller. In particular, the blocking efficiency and the quality of the diblocks obtained were compared when either the PS or PnBuA block is polymerized first. Results show that well-defined PS-b-PnBuA diblock samples could be synthesized by either order of addition of the monomers, provided the experimental conditions are finely tuned.
