Abstract

The performance of two solar stills is reported: One is a basin type while the other is a stepped-tray type. Tests on these stills were carried out under the meteorological conditions of Singapore which is situated near the equator. Each still provided with an area for evaporation of about 2m**2, the trays were made of galvanized iron and painted black to increase absorption as well as to prevent corrosion. During each test, measurements were made in terms of such items as the solar radiation input, temperatures of the glass and water surfaces, the wind speed and the distillate output.
