Abstract

Silica doped with Mg or Li and magnesia doped with Li have been prepared via organometallics i.e. bis-(neopentyl)-magnesium and neopentyl-(lithium). The catalytic activity of these solids has been studied for the oxidative dimerization of methane and compared to a magnesia doped with Li2CO3. The importance of parameters such as reactor walls, support, presence of an anion is discussed.
