Abstract
[Mo6Cl8Cl6]2- clusters have a long excited state lifetime (approaching 200 μs) and can convert triplet O into reactive single O when the clusters are excited by near UV radiation. These clusters exhibit better activity when isolated from each other, which is rather difficult to achieve on inorganic supports. In contrast, efficient catalyst containing isolated cluster can be prepared by reaction of the metal clusters with ligands in a polymer. The porous properties of the monolithic support, the attachment of the clusters onto surface of the polymer were studied. Sufficient UV transmission through the system required for photochemical polymer was achieved by matching refractive indices of both solvent and polymer and using a specifically design flow reactor.
