Abstract

It is shown that when a target is heated by laser radiation of nanosecond duration, the resulting supersonic motion of plasma in the neighborhood of the critical density leads to the suppression of generation of hot electrons and higher harmonics of the heating radiation as a result of the self-confinement of the field.
