Abstract

Model block copolymers of styrene/isoprene, linear and 3-arm star polybutadienes with dimethylamine end groups were prepared by anionic polymerization using [3-(dimethylamino) propyl] lithium and sec-BuLi as initiators and methyltrichlorosilane as linking agent. The dimethylamine end groups were transformed to the highly polar sulfozwitterionic ones by reaction with cyclopropansultone. Association of the different ω-functionalized species was studied either in dilute solution by LALLS, MO and dynamic light scattering or in bulk by rheology, SAXS and dielectric spectroscopy. The influence of the environment, the macromolecular architecture and the number of sulfozwitterionic groups on the properties of functionalized and the corresponding neutral compounds will be presented.
