N2 - The goal of this work is to evaluate the dimensionless extinction coefficient in piloted turbulent diffusion flames of Reynolds number 10000 via a two color line-of-sight technique simultaneously. A diluted (65% by vol. with N2) ethylene jet is used as the fuel. The burner design is kept simple for the ease of modeling with existing CFD softwares and for meaningful comparison with current soot models for validation. Light from a source is passed through the flame and is focused onto an ICCD camera. Images are obtained in the red (655 nm) region of the spectrum by placing a red band pass filter (FWHM = 40 nm) in front of the camera. In conjunction with Rayleigh-Debye-Gans theory, these results can provide valuable information about the optical and physical properties of soot.
