N2 - Cycloalkanes (i.e., naphthenes) are important components in fossil fuels such as gasoline and aviation fuels. In particular, the emergence of the oil-sand-derived fuels and coal-based synthetic fuels has increased the concentration of cycloalkanes in transportation fuels. In this work, the low-pressure pyrolysis of three prototypical cycloalkanes, i.e., cyclohexane, methylcyclohexane and ethylcyclohexane were investigated in a flow reactor at 30 Torr using synchrotron vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) photoionization mass spectrometry (PIMS). The fuel pyrolysis kinetics are investigated based on the mole fraction distribution of a series of intermediates, thus revealing the pyrolysis chemistry of cycloalkanes.
