Jeff S. Shamma [People in Control]

An interview with Jeff. S. Shamma, Julian T. Chair in Systems and Controls, Georgia Institute of Technology, is presented. His early research interests centered around the advancement of gain scheduling as an approach for nonlinear control design. This direction led to the introduction in his Ph.D. dissertation of the formalism of linear parameter varying systems, which has now become a keyword in the control literature. In addition to constructive design methodologies, he has also been interested in understanding limits of achievable performance in feedback systems. Most recently, he has been interested in distributed/networked control systems, particularly from the perspective of game theory. Jeff believes that the broad themes of systems and control dealing with dynamics and uncertainty can play an important role in this area.
