Abstract

New and workable energy solutions apart from fossil fuels and hydrogen fuels, need to be found to fulfill the future energy requirements. The cost associated with the new infrastructure also needs to be considered for the development of a viable future energy source. Alcohols such as ethanol and methanol are seen as the energy options as they can be made renewably and are liquid at atmospheric conditions. The two alcohols are found to have similar physico-chemical characteristics and are both miscible with gasoline. Investments are being made for the development of lignocellulosic ethanol production. Focus is made in the field of change in software engineering regarding the modification required to introduce renewable methanol into the existing energy sources is also focused.
