Abstract

High speed 850 nm vertical-cavity laser is fabricated as light source transmitter for Gigabit Ethernet data communication in Local Area Network. By utilizing barrier reduction layers, low-threshold current operation is achieved at high modulation bandwidth. The electrical and optical characteristics measured from the fabricated VCSEL are simulated for Gigabit Ethernet transmission. Data rates of 1.25 Gbps with bit error rate 10-11 is obtained from the multimode network simulator.
