Abstract
The growth and magnetism of Ni films on GaAs(001) and their magnetic properties were investigated. The investigations were performed using reflection high energy electron diffraction and magneto-optical Kerr effect. Results showed that a body-centered-cubic (BCC) phase of Ni grows epitaxially up to 2.5 nm on the GaAs(001) substrate. The phase of Ni was determined to be ferromagnetic and showed a four-fold in-plane mangetic anisotropy.
