Abstract

The chiral organogermane H3GeAdCH2CO2[(-)-menthyl], 2, reacts selectively with the metallic surface of catalyst Rh/SiO2 to afford the surface species {[H(x)GeAdCH2CO2(-)-menthyl](y)[Ge(o)]0,3} Rh(s)/SiO2; y increasing from 0 to 0,7 when the quantity of 2 by surface atom of rhodium varies from 0,3 to 1. Catalysts with y = 0,3 and 0,5 show low activity and give week enantioselective excess for the asymmetric hydrogenation of ketocompounds and alkene derivatives. These results can be explained either by electronic effect of germanium or steric hindrance of alkyl group.
