Abstract
There is a rapid increase in elongation at one particular point (breaking point) in Newtonian filaments. The break-up can be prevented or delayed by the addition of a viscoelastic polymer, even if the shear viscosity is not altered. Elasticity has a stabilizing effect even in the presence of surface tension which accelerates break-up.
