Abstract

An experiment is reported in which air bubbles are blown isothermally in water against a vertical wall enclosed between two closely-spaced horizontal plates. The motion of bubbles approximately represent in two dimensions, the growth of vapor bubbles at a wall in zero gravity. Although the buoyancy effects are virtually eliminated in the experiment, the bubbles could still detach itself from the wall owing to the process of rounding-off. Bubble departure is also observed in tests conducted with a slight gravitation field which is directed to oppose such detachment.
