Experimental analysis of the effect of different emulsification processes on combustion behavior

Abstract

The emulsification is a valuable technology aimed to enhance the carbon efficiency and reduce the emissions of spray combustors. In this work the effect of the emulsification procedure on the combustion behavior of water in heavy fuel oil (HFO) emulsions is investigated. Several parameters influence the emulsion formation and therefore droplet size distribution and stability of the emulsified fuel. Preparation method, presence of surfactant, water percentage are the most important to be considered to have a proper understanding of the phenomenon. The emulsified fuel is tested on a suspended droplet experiment and the data obtained are used to highlight the effects of the explored preparation variables.
