Abstract

An electrolyte (400) for a battery (500) for storing electrical energy includes a solvent (402) including plural H-O chemical bonds (420), wherein a first molecule (100) of the solvent (402) has an H-bond donor (102) and an H-bond acceptor (103), a Zn salt (404), and a reagent (210) configured to chemically react with the solvent (402) and to cap either the H-bond donor (102) or the H-bond acceptor (103) of the first molecule (100) of the solvent (402) so that an H-bond (410) with a second molecule (104) of the solvent (402) is terminated at the first molecule (100).
