The effects of shear stress on the morphology and gas separation performance of hollow fiber membranes were investigated. The hollow fiber membranes spun with large die length to flow channel gap ratio with high shear exhibited tighter molecular packing structure and higher selectivity. Hollow fibers spun with high shear rate have lower thermal expansion coefficient and higher loss modulus. The fully developed high shear stress within the spinneret altered the thermodynamics of nodular formation of the hollow fiber membranes.
