Abstract
The European Commission (EC) has planned to consolidate the technological expertise and to accelerate the development and application pace of membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology for municipal wastewater treatment in Europe by financing four projects. These projects named as AMEDUS, EUROMBRA, MBR-TRAIN and PURATREAT are devoted to research, development, capacity building, and technological transfer in regards to wastewater treatment process. About 50 European and international companies and institutions are actively involved in this €16 million project. The project contains a mixture of fundamental and applied research approaches that will guarantee technological breakthroughs required to ensure incremental process applying to MBR systems. The project will also see to the development and optimization of MBR filtration systems developed in Europe. The MBR-Network is expected to improve process engineering and operation practices in water treatment process.
