Abstract

Dynamics of polymers in a dilute and semi-dilute solution are investigated by means of single-molecule fluorescence microscopy techniques. In addition to the direct demonstration of fundamental concepts in polymer physics such as reptation motion in a highly concentrated solution, the single-molecule techniques also reveal effects of topology of the polymer chains on their diffusion behavior. Threading of the chains plays an important role in the heterogeneous diffusion observed in the cyclic polymers.
