Abstract
The diameter selective encapsulation of two metallocene compounds bis(cyclopentadienyl) cobalt and bis(ethylcyclopentadienyl) was analyzed in single-walled carbon nanotubes. Electron transfer from the cobalt ions to the nanotubes was directly observed through a change in the charge state of the encapsulated molecule. Two very strong absorption bands for CoCp2 at 5.277 eV and 4.788 eV were assigned to the metal-to-ligand and ligand-to-metal charge transfer transitions. It was observed that the absorption of CoCp 2 in a relatively wide nanotube was only slightly exothermic.
