Abstract

This paper presents a class-based classification approach for targets in a shallow water channel, based on a waveguide propagation model and a Hidden Markov Model (HMM). We utilize the time-frequency properties of wave propagation in a shallow water channel to extract the channel-parameter-independent features, then build a class-based HMM to realize target classification based on multi-aspect scattering data. The accuracy of this approach is demonstrated by simulated results.
