Abstract

One of the most fundamental long-standing problems of Astronomy has been the evaluation of distances to celestial objects. It took 16 centuries of investigations and human ingenuity to replace, on observable grounds, the paradigm of a celestial sphere of fixed stars with a moving and deep cosmos.
