Abstract
Fullerene-containing homopolymers, as well as donor-acceptor amphiphilic diblock copolymers were synthesized and implemented in bulk-heterojunction organic thin-film solar cells. The effects of the diblock material, poly-block-poly, on the morphology of thin-film blends of poly 3-hexylthiophene (P3HT) and [6,6]-phenyl C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) were investigated using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The thermal treatment is necessary to increase the mobility of the P3HT and obtain good device performance. Lowering the interfacial energy between polymer and fullerene can alter the morphology of blended thin film. Phase segregation can be altered at observable length scales with TEM by changing the amount of diblock added.
