Mechanical Engineering is the oldest and widest of all engineering disciplines.
The Mechanical Engineering (ME) program focuses on the following broad areas of research: structures and mechanics of solids, fluid dynamics, thermal sciences, combustion, energy, and control and dynamics.
Courses in the program provide a solid foundation in each area, covering subjects such as mechanical behavior of engineering materials, continuum mechanics, thermodynamics, experimental and numerical combustion, control design, dynamic analysis, modeling, and simulation.
Laboratories in various areas of expertise include an integrated environment dedicated to advanced modeling, simulation and inverse approaches for composite materials, the latest high-tech instrumentation for experiments in fluid mechanics, cutting edge equipment and facilities for combustion diagnostics, experimental capabilities for reactive flow modeling, and a total internal refraction fluorescence microscope.
The Mechanical Engineering program course curriculum is modern and rigorous and provides a solid foundation in each area. Our graduates are well trained to be productive members of modern society and specifically suited for research careers in academia, industry and government laboratories.
